Firefighters' Magazine

A big thank you to mr. K, who wrote an article about the Three Little Pigs for the esteemed magazine, Shobo.

Shobo, for those unfamiliar with the title, is a magazine aimed at firefighters, ER doctors and others involved in emergency rescue.

 It might be a bit specialist but we'll take what we can.

Fruit Scones

Today from The Three Little Pigs oven we bring you these fruit scones. 150 yen to take out of 200 yen to eat in.

When ordered as eat in they come with butter, jam and (depending on supplies ) a dollop of clotted cream.

Tea Tasting

Our teas are supplied exclusively by Ringtons and for the past year we've offered a regular black tea (Traditional), Earl Grey and Red Bush.

We thought it high time we introduced a bit of variety, thankfully Ringtons have four blends of black tea so today we put them to the taste test to discover any differences. 

Blends put to the taste test were Traditional, Extra Fresh, Connoisseur and Kenyan Gold.

Happy to report that each blend has it's own characteristics.

Inaka Quiche?

A new week, a new quiche. Today we made this based, potato and onion quiche. I thought it was a twist on the classic Quiche Lorraine, but on checking our Japanese cookbook it seems it's known as "inaka quiche " which to translates as "country quiche "(but without the bucolic ideal that it's English title conjours up!)

So what to call it?

Freshly Baked Scones

A new experience for me, sitting down being a customer. Relaxing with a slice of lemon drizzle cake and a cup of Ringtons Kenyan Gold tea.

Busy bakers

We're asked to provide a gift selection for an event happening this weekend, so we've been busying ourselves baking oatmeal biscuits, flapjacks, brownies and these Ormskirk gingerbread.

Don't worry they're not all for this weekend, we've baked extra so you can still pop in and pick up a packet, or two!

Ormskirk Gingerbread

We are proud to offer, what are quite possibly, the only Ormskirk "style" Gingerbread for sale in Japan.

As somebody who grew up in Ormskirk, Lancashire, these biscuits were a part of my childhood. And aside from the odd packet of original Ormskirk Gingerbreads brought across by my parents when they visit, which apparently even then had been difficult to find in Ormskirk, I'd almost forgotten the taste of these Ginger cookies unique to the town of Ormskirk.

After a bit of research, and a lot of trial and error I think I've recreated a ginger biscuit that is faithful to it's origins. Of course most people have never heard of Ormskirk (either here in Japan or the UK based on my experience) and even fewer know of Ormskirk Gingerbread but these ginger biscuits/cookies are proving popular here in Tokyo.

So if you're ever in Tokyo please drop in a and pick up pack of, what are probably, the only Ormskirk "style" Gingerbread biscuits in Japan.

Shortbread Fingers

Recently it seems that the butter shortage, which has gripped Japan for the past 12 months or so, appears to have eased a little so it's high time we got some Shortbread Fingers back on the shelves. Hopefully with a regular supply of butter we'll be able to keep baking these goodies.
