Gift Bags

We were asked by our friends at Shinjuku Kodomo Gekijo to provide some gift bags to the preformers at a recent event. This led to a further order of twenty such bags by a lady who saw the bags and thought they would make great presents for her circle of friends.

So, we're now in the business of biscuit making.

Available to order. Contents can be selected. The bag above contained a Gingerbread Man, oatmeal biscuits, three little pigs chocolate biscuits and a flapjack.

Invasion of the Gingerbread Men

We were busy last week fulfilling an order for gift packs of biscuits. I'd previously only made these gingerbread men as a kind of amusement when making our ever popular Ormskirk Gingerbread biscuits, and then only as one, or two, at a time. This time round we needed 25 of them!!!

As mentioned they are made using the same dough as used in our Ormskirk (style) Gingerbread biscuits but I wouldn't call them Ormskirk Gingerbread Men as there's a Community Partnership Group with that name, doing great things for the people of Ormskirk back in the UK.

Pieyoubi

Today is Pie Day, or on a play on the Japanese for Tuesday we are calling it Pieyoubi (パイヨウビ)

Today's pie is that traditional classic cottage pie. But be quick as we only make a few and when they are gone they are gone.

Apple Cake

Something for the autumn season?

Perfect for this time of year, Apple Cake. With chunks of caramelized apple and each cut topped with a slice of apple.

Thank you to our friends who bring us apples from their home towns in Nagano and Gunma prefectures.

Crispy Chicken Skins

Fed up of buying chicken with the skin on only to throw it away? Well with the minimum of effort you can turn that wasted skin into a tasty snack:

Ingredients

Chicken skins, oil for frying, salt.

Method

Set a pan of water to boil

Spread the chicken skins flat on a chopping board and using a sharp knife cut into 5cm squares (or thereabouts)

Throw the cut skins into the now boiling water and boil for 10 minutes.

Drain well (as any excess moisture while frying will cause the oil to spit)

In a shallow fry pan add a little oil (I used olive oil) and heat up.

When the pan is hot throw in the drained chicken skins and cook until they have turned colour and become crispy (about 5 minutes)

Remove from the oil and place on a square of kitchen paper.

Sprinkle with a little salt...and enjoy!

Normally I don't like sharing our recipes, as they are our closely guarded trade secrets! But here's one recipe I'll gladly share as it's not on the menu but is something I often make in the kitchen for the staff and myself to enjoy.

Sandwich Box

We were asked by a group of mums to provide a boxed sandwich lunch. So after a bit of thinking about the presentation we came up with this.

If you'd like us to provide a take out lunch please contact us.

Window Sticker

We'd wanted to add a window sticker for a long time, but as most print shops only accept images made with a certain proprietary software, that would be used only once, we had put it off. A chance meeting with the father of one of my daughters school friends , who owns a local print shop, set things in motion. Within a couple of days of talking about having a window sticker made, he'd converted our data, cut the sheet and was fixing it to the window. Great job and a big thanks to OSP Design Board in Haramachi 3-chome.

The Three Little Pigs shop front

I think you'll agree it makes us look more professional.
