Raspberry & Peanut Butter Pound Cake

Our cake lady has been busy this week conjuring up new combinations! I managed to take of photo of these Raspberry and Peanut Butter pound cakes before they flew off the shelf.

Notice the new wrapping used for the pound cakes, before we were cutting each slice to order which obviously takes time. With the new wrappings it's now even easy to pick up a few slices to take back to the office or home.

A big thank you to our neighbour, the packaging shop Tomisho for helping us find the right wrapping for our needs.

Turn Every Friday into a Premium Friday

Turn every Friday into a Premium Friday with a bottle of Fuller's Golden Pride.

We've not had this barley wine style beer on the shelves for some time. Described as having a taste reminiscent of sweet orange oil, toasted grains, and bread by some, or as ’the Cognac of beers’ by the late beer writer and connoisseur, Michael Jackson. And with an alcohol content of 8.5%, it's sure to round the corners off any day of the week, Premium Friday or not.

Herbs & Flowers

This week our flowers from Country Farm Andy (カントリーファームアンディ) contained sprigs of parsley!

While it's the first time (or should that be thyme) that we've had parsely in our flower arrangements it created a great talking point with among our customers.

Unfortunately, for me at least, the parsley used is for display only and cannot be eaten.

2nd Anniversary

Last week, March 1st, we celebrated our 2nd anniversary.

How time flies when you're having fun, it only seems like yesterday that we opened!

To mark the anniversary our regular flower lady ordered something special from Country Flowers Andy. I think you'll agree that the display looks great.

Thank you, and may we have many more anniversaries!

Visitors from Finland

On Monday we had a very nice couple from Finland visit us for lunch.

It gave the staff a good chance to use their English skills, especially as they needed to find a bank when they realised we didn't take cards! (And yes, LIQUID we are still waiting for that functionality!)

On leaving they taught us a little Finnish, "Kiitos paljon" which means Thank you.

Even here, in a quiet backwater of Shinjuku, we are seeing many more foreign tourists, so we maybe need to promote our English language skills more.

And the reply to, "Kiitos paljon"?

 "Ei kestaä" of course.

Somebody's Sending Us Letters

We found this letter in our postbox on Monday,

 ”さんびきのこぶたさんへい、毎日オートミールビスケットとバナナケーキをやいてください”

which roughly translates as;  "Dear Three Little Pigs, could you please bake Oatmeal Biscuits and Banana Cake everyday."

We had an inkling as to who the author of the letter may be...our very own daughter whose favourite items just happen to be the same as those requested.

Of course we were happy to oblige and took a few packets of Oatmeal Biscuits home for her.

Latte Art 2

Many more lattes later and I managed to create this...

...still not quite there, but a big improvement?

  I'll keep trying!
